Online Poker RoomsHey, what’s the deal with all the online poker rooms currently populating the Internet, from the classic Party Poker and PokerStars to newcomers like Titan Poker (read a Titan Poker review to find more info about the site)? Have you ever taken a few moments out of your busy day to ponder that question? Didn’t think so. But bear with me for a little bit here. Because when you think about it, the ubiquity of online poker rooms says a lot about our culture and where we may be heading as a nation. Does that sound a bit over-inflated to you? Well, stop to consider the fact that poker currently enjoys a level of popularity and recognition that’s unprecedented in the game’s history. It’s not just that more people than ever are tuning to watch professional poker on TV (although that certainly is the case) it’s also that millions of people are hitting the ol’ computer to search for online poker rooms. And, as a result, more people are playing poker around the globe right now than at any other time in history. America is the home of poker, and thus it’s no surprise that most online poker rooms are crowded with American players. These folks range in age, race, sex, income level and every other possible means of classification. They also vary quite a bit in skill level. That’s why online poker rooms are such a great resource, because they bring people together who can learn the game collectively. The end result is that the world is filling up with a lot of experienced and cunning poker players. Which I’m assuming is a good thing, but only time will tell. |
