Las Vegas is a big city with the usual
big-city safety issues for travelers.
Security is tight, especially in the casinos,
downtown and along the Strip, but you still need to take precautions.
The best precaution is to use common sense:
- Always be aware of your surroundings and
stay out of any situation or area that makes you feel uncomfortable.
- Don't carry a large amount of cash and
keep valuables in your room safe or your hotel's safe.
- Keep an eye on your purse, change bucket
or chips while gaming. If there is an incident in a casino, security
personnel are generally highly visible and nearby.
- If you're out walking at night, stay in
areas like along the Strip where there are a lot of other people.
- Keep your hotel room locked and check
with the front desk before letting anyone in.
- Keep your car locked and keep valuables
in the trunk.
And now a word about panhandlers and people
passing out flyers advertising various adult services.
You probably will encounter panhandlers if
you walk around downtown and the Fremont Street Experience. Just give them a
wide berth and call on the highly visible security force if needed.
You're sure to encounter people passing out
X-rated flyers along the Strip.
It's legal for them to do this and it's
legal for you to ignore them.
Be warned: If you ever accept a flyer from
one person, the rest will descend on you like you're a $1.99 buffet. |
